OCIT interfaces are the basis of an open architecture. They concentrate on standardised connections between distributed central and decentralized components, like subsystems, tools and field devices. With the use of internet technology they enables traffic management systems and system-far networks, which cover field devices and central devices.

OCIT specifies the architecture, rules, OCIT protocols, functions and transmission protocols.

So far the following interfaces were defined:

• OCIT centers to centers (OCIT-C) are standardised interfaces between central components and systems. OCIT-C replaces the former interfaces OCIT-I process data and OCIT-I supply data and covers practically all interface ranges of the traffic management.
  
• OCIT Outstations (OCIT-O) are standardised interfaces between central devices and field devices.
  
• OCIT-O profiles are definitions to the data transmission technique.
  
• OCIT-LED is an electrical interface between traffic controllers and LED signals with 40 V technology.
